CD Lugo are unhappy with how Villarreal dealt with Alfonso Pedraza’s January transfer to Leeds United, and they may have a point.
Pedraza to Leeds rumours appeared with a couple of days left of the January transfer window, and a deal was quickly agreed with Villarreal. The 20 year old has joined Leeds on loan with a view to a permanent deal and there are high hopes for the footballer.
Before the transfer Pedraza had been on loan at Segunda Division side Lugo and he’d been one of their most important players. Villarreal had a right to cut the loan short as long as they paid compensation, and that’s exactly what they did to facilitate the Leeds move.
However, Lugo are unhappy that they were informed of the situation so late in the window, making it extra difficult to bring a replacement in.
The club’s president Tino Saqués has been quoted by La Voz de Galicia as saying: “We understand that a negotiation of that transfer with an English club would take seven or ten days to be sure, and could have been communicated to Lugo to be able to sign a substitute if we understood it necessary.
“What cannot be is that three days before (the end of the window) we are told: gentlemen, this boy is going to Leeds.”
Pedraza moving to Leeds so late has clearly angered Lugo, but it’s not unusual to have a date cut-off point in recall clauses and that’s something the Spanish club should certainly consider in future.
Should Michel Vorm exit Tottenham this summer, perhaps it's worth Garry Monk having a go for Leeds. #LUFC #THFC https://t.co/jcr7BkoxHw
