Greek website Sdna report Swiss side Basel are set to rival Celtic for the signature of AEK goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas.
In recent weeks we’ve covered claims from Greece which said Celtic’s sporting director Nick Hammond is a fan of the player after following his performances since last season.
It was reported at that time that Barkas is one of three goalkeepers on Celtic’s short list.
Neil Lennon could be looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper during the next window, with uncertainty over Fraser Forster
However, it is now reported that along with Celtic, Basel are also in the frame for the 26 year old, with their current goalkeeper Jonas Omlin being linked with a move to French club Montpellier.
Basel reportedly see Barkas as an ideal replacement for Omlin and they could make an offer to AEK for the player.
The Greek international has made 26 appearances for his club this season in all competitions, keeping 13 clean sheets. His contract with the Athens side will expire at the end of June 2022.
