Things haven’t been positive for João Cancelo in his first season at Manchester City as Pep Guardiola has largely used him in the cup competitions.
Calciomercato claims the 25-year-old is ‘not experiencing an unforgettable first year’ at the Etihad.
Reports coming out of England have talked about a swap deal involving the right-back and Milan Škriniar. These are ‘linked to a reality’ as there’s ‘great interest’ from Guardiola in the Inter Milan star.
However, the Nerazzurri are not willing to give the go ahead for the swap deal because they rate the Slovakia international much higher than Cancelo.
Although Cancelo’s name is ‘highly appreciated’ by the Serie A club’s leaders, Antonio Conte is unlikely a fan of him. The former Chelsea boss wants a right-back who can give ‘guarantees’ when defending and going forward, and the City player doesn’t fit the bill.
Cancelo struggled to impress defensively at Juventus last season and this convinced them to sanction his move to City.
Inter are now having the same doubts over signing him. Therefore, the San Siro club won’t open the door for a potential swap deal involving Cancelo and Škriniar.
