Even after Rudi Garcia’s ‘stop dreaming, lads, he’s not coming’ to Marseille fans, the Ligue 1 side haven’t given up on signing Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.
That is, at least, what La Provence are reporting on Monday, as the local newspaper explain the Gunners’ now backup striker is still the Ligue 1 side’s favoured option to bolster a rather weak frontline consisting, as things stand, of Valère Germain and a shoehorned Clinton N’Jié.
Unfortunately for them, Marseille isn’t Giroud’s destination of choice, and La Provence even go as far as saying it’s ‘bottom of his list’, a fact the player is rumoured to have told some of his close friends.
Despite all of this, the Europa League hopefuls still believe there’s a chance he could change of mind throughout August, especially if his situation at Arsenal becomes more and more desperate.
This certainly seems like Marseille are putting way too much faith in Giroud, and could suggest they are struggling to find someone else to help Germain up top.
It’s been a problem for them recently, and even with claims of talks with Celtic about Moussa Dembelé, putting all of their eggs in the Arsenal striker’s basket isn’t the wisest of moves.
