In the past few days, the Benfica striker Raul Jimenez has been much linked to West Ham United. Reports from the English and Mexican press claimed the clubs were close to a deal.
But Portuguese newspaper Record comes up with different information today, saying there are no advanced talks with the Hammers, even though Benfica are looking to sell the player.
The Eagles are having their preseason in England, and club president Luis Filipe Vieira would use the trip as a chance to make business with local clubs.
As Everton fans should remember, Jimenez has also been linked with a move to Goodison Park this summer, with some very strange claims the club had made a €45m offer for him.
That’s why Ronald Koeman’s side is brought into the story again. Record actually believe Everton are more serious contenders than the Hammers.
They claim Everton’s insistence could lead to a deal, and Vieira’s presence in England could accelerate this process. The problem is Benfica are demanding €50m for a player who had only nine starts last season.
Can you see it happening? Because we can’t.
