The Portuguese press remains confident that West Ham United could pay €50m for Raul Jimenez from Benfica.
Or maybe they just wish it.
Slaven Bilic’s presence at Arsenal’s stadium for Emirates Cup was reported by the English media, and that’s given Record some renewed hope.
They ‘recall’ that West Ham are interested in the Mexican striker, and he played against Arsenal and RB Leipzig as the Hammers watched on, but didn’t score any goals.
West Ham’s idea, at least according to the newspaper, would be to have Jimenez alongside Chicharito Hernandez up front.
It’s not the first time this plan has been floated in Portugal.
Benfica want an incredible €50m for Jimenez, which is ridiculous given his bench status last season, and given that he’s Raul Jimenez and has shown nothing to back up such a fee.
Claims of a huge Everton offer were easy to doubt, as is West Ham spending €50m on the player, but there’s clearly some hope in Portugal.
If Benfica want to reasonable then West Ham would be further tempted by a sensible fee… probably half the price.
