Chelsea defensive quartet of Antonio Rüdiger, Thiago Silva, César Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen have their contracts expiring in 2022 and none of them have signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge so far.
Earlier this week, Sport reported the former Marseille man and the Denmark international are ‘holding up the onslaught’ of ‘various’ renewal offers from the Blues because they are ‘more attracted’ to the Barcelona project.
The La Liga side’s interest in Azpilicueta and Christensen is backed up by today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
It’s said the Catalan club, led by sporting director Mateu Alemany, are set to have a ‘busy month of January’, not only working out deals for the winter market, but also for the next summer.
The report adds ‘there will be appointments’ with the agents of the Spain international and the 26-year-old.
It will be ‘two meetings’, between the Chelsea duo’s agents and Barcelona, and Mundo Deportivo add Azpilicueta ‘will decide his future’ in January.
Xavi Hernández’s side are looking at potential free agents next summer and the addition of the two west London club defenders will help them improve the defence after this season.
