Just as it was sure that when Carlo Ancelotti took over at Everton they’d be linked with half of Serie A, the same goes now for Newcastle United and any conceivable target on the planet.

With the club going through a takeover process and expected to have renewed strength in the transfer market, stories are starting about Newcastle going for targets which wouldn’t have been realistic not so long ago.

Last week saw claims from Italy of interest in Dries Mertens, and from Spain there came a rumour of interest in Arturo Vidal.

Marca briefly go over that on Sunday, and also mention reported interest in Vidal from Manchester United.

Should Newcastle interest be genuine, then the Spanish newspaper make clear that Barcelona would see the player’s exit with good eyes.

Barca ‘see his transfer well’, and could also be tempted to use Vidal as part of a deal to sign someone else.

They’d prefer the cash obviously, and Newcastle United have a pretty clear road to the signing, so they’d just have to convince the player.
