Cenk Tosun arrived at Everton in the summer 2018 window, having made himself something of a hero at Besiktas.
The transfer fee was put at various points between £25m and £30m and therefore there was a lot of expectation around the striker.
It’s not unfair to say he ended up being something of a flop at Goodison Park and wasn’t able to replicate his goalscoring form from Turkey’s Super Lig.
Some injuries didn’t help Tosun, yet even when fit it was clear he’d struggle to be the senior striker Everton were looking for.
Loan moves to Crystal Palace and Besiktas failed to amount to much, with the first being cut very short due a knee injury, and the second also seeing Tosun pick up a knee injury.
Everton allowed him to leave as a free agent last summer, and he returned to Besiktas.
Turkish journalist Gokmen Ozcan now reports a move to Chicago Fire could be on the cards. MLS’ transfer window doesn’t close until April, which makes the switch possible.
Despite getting Tosun from Everton on a free, it’s stated Besiktas could receive $2m if the move goes through.
The player would be minded to stay in Turkey if a new contract is offered, therefore it’s all now in the hands of Besiktas.
