Of the more surprising things to happen, Christian Eriksen still being at Tottenham is up there with them.
The midfielder hinted after the Champions League final that he might fancy a move this summer, telling Ekstra Bladet he would like to ‘try something new’.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs to have been linked with his signature, and in the same interview, Eriksen admitted it would be a ‘step up’ to join the Spanish giants.
The rumours have not decreased since then, with Eriksen still linked with a move away from Tottenham and Madrid in the running.
Indeed, Mauricio Pochettino recently added to the fire by suggesting he wasn’t sure if the Dane would play for Tottenham again.
While a move is yet to happen, it seems a switch to the Bernabeu is there waiting for completion.
That’s according to Marca, who say Madrid could finalise Eriksen’s move to the Bernabeu ‘tomorrow’ if they wanted to (perhaps exaggerating a bit), and all they would need to make that happen would be for Zidane to give them the nod.
He’s yet to do that though, as he’s still dreaming of getting Pogba from Manchester United. The Frenchman has been Madrid’s primary target all summer, but negotiations have not moved with United demanding €200m.
Eriksen and Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek are the alternative options, and Marca suggests moves for either could be completed quickly, but Zidane isn’t interested right now.
However, with just a week left of the window and Pogba seemingly not happening, perhaps his stance will change.
