Spanish side Sevilla are increasingly concerned about Gonzalo Montiel’s loan spell at Nottingham Forest and the fact it could end up costing them €11m.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say Sevilla ‘fear’ that the player is barely featuring for Nottingham Forest, and the repercussions that may bring.
Estadio explain that they are ‘keeping an eye’ on Montiel’s loan as they believe that it could become a future problem for them as a ‘good amount of money’ would disappear for them.
That’s because his loan deal includes a condition that will make his loan deal a permanent one for €11m if he plays 50% of Nottingham Forest’s games this season.
At that point, the purchase option becomes mandatory and would earn Sevilla €11m in income, a figure would be more than welcome for the Spanish side, whose finances are tight.
Montiel is barely featuring for Forest this season, though, playing in just five of ten possible games to date but seeing his role in the team become ‘less and less’ in recent weeks.
If that continues then Sevilla would lose the possibility of earning the €11m from a permanent sale and would also find themselves stuck with a player who is not a part of their plans but has a contract until 2026.
That’s something they want to avoid, naturally, and they may need to make a decision in the January transfer window if things don’t improve.
There’s plenty of time for a change but it’s a situation to keep an eye on as the player’s loan at Nottingham Forest is yet to work out.
