Kalmar goalkeeper Lucas Hägg Johansson has confirmed he’s committed himself to the Swedish side, despite recent links with IFK Göteborg.
Johansson was being lined up as a possible replacement for Pontus Dahlberg at IFK, after the latter was recently linked with a move to Watford.
Speaking to Barometern after signing a two year extension with Kalmar, Johansson said: “This is the best for my football development. I enjoy Kalmar and the club and it wasn’t a difficult decision. It’s nice to have a clear picture of what to do.”
It now seems IFK will need to look for other options if they sell Dahlberg next month, but the 18 year old is still likely to leave due to the club’s financial position.
Watford have been in final talks to sign Dahlberg in the next transfer window, but will face competition to sign the youngster from Napoli and RB Leipzig.
Dalberg’s transfer fee of £3m+ isn’t an issue for Watford or the other interested clubs, which could mean the player makes the final decision on his next destination.
It’s expected the Sweden U21 international will compete for the Watford No.1 jersey with Heurelho Gomes if he does join the Premier League side.
