Grêmio are keeping a close eye on Brighton and Hove Albion’s move for Botafogo defender Cuiabano, as they’re set to profit from the deal.
That’s according Zero Hora, who report that Grêmio negotiated to receive a percentage of the profit from any future sale on their youth product when they sold him to Botafogo in 2024.
Cuiabano joined Botafogo last year in a €1.45m deal after rising through the youth system at Grêmio and featuring for their first team.
He’s now in Brighton’s sights, with reports in England making it clear that the Seagulls have already seen two bids rejected for the 22-year-old.
Grêmio are keeping a close eye on proceedings as they can make money from the deal too. They agreed to 20% of the profit when they sold to Botafogo last year so if the player were to leave for €5m, which was Brighton’s last proposal, they would receive R$4.7m, around €700,000.
If Brighton have to pay more, which is looking likely given they’ve seen two bids rejected thus far, then Grêmio will be set to earn even more from the sale.
It all depends on the Seagulls striking a deal first, which they are very much trying to do at this moment in time.
