Botafogo have added Nottingham Forest’s Gonzalo Montiel to their list of names as they look to add a right back to their squad.
That’s according to journalist Medeiros, who reports that the Argentine defender has ‘entered the club’s radar’ and is a name being looked at.
Montiel is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Sevilla and has endured something of a varied campaign to date.
He was very much out of the side under Steve Cooper and appeared set for a return to Sevilla before a move elsewhere but has returned to prominence since Cooper departed and Nuno Espirito Santo took charge.
All indications since his arrival have been that he will spend the rest of the season at the City Ground and, perhaps even secure a permanent move, which had become very unlikely under Cooper.
However, Botafogo could throw a spanner into the works, with Medeiros reporting that they have added Montiel to their list of possible options at right-back.
He explains that several names are being analysed and the Argentine defender is one of them, with the Brazilian side no longer working to a plan A, B or C and instead it is a case of whoever moves forward first will be the one they sign.
Any deal for Montiel would surely be dependent on Nottingham Forest sanctioning a departure, which may be unlikely given the January transfer window has closed.
With the Brazilian window still open until March, as it’s actually their summer window, there is plenty of time for Botafogo to work something out if they decide Montiel is the man they want.
