Juventus have dumped the idea of signing Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, despite him showing an interest in making the move to Turin.

They’re also giving up on Kalvin Phillips, with them believing he’s close to joining Newcastle United.

That’s according to Calciomercato.it, who say Juventus will ‘look elsewhere’ for a much-needed midfield reinforcement.

They explain that January should prove to be a busy month for the Italian giants, who have an obligation to look for reinforcements even if they are limited financially.

Director of football Cristiano Giuntoli has a list of names in his notebook but several of those have been slowly falling away and Partey is the latest name to be ‘removed from the list’.

Juventus had monitored the Arsenal man ‘rather closely’ in recent months and he seemed to like the idea of a possible move to Turin, but that move won’t be happening.

That’s because the Ghanaian hasn’t played since October 8th due to injury and his recovery from that is not yet complete, so much so that he is set to miss the Africa Cup of Nations as that recovery continues.

That’s turned Juventus away as they need ‘ready players’ to replace Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli, who are both in the midst of long-term bans. The Arsenal midfielder doesn’t fit into that idea and so has been discarded.

The same can be said of Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, who is also ‘moving away’ and is now ‘very close to Newcastle’ instead.

A double blow for Juventus, then, who need to keep looking elsewhere for the midfielder that they need in the January transfer window.
