A few days ago, we covered reports from Portugal which said Sporting would have a hard time fighting Liverpool for Fluminense midfielder André.

It was well known the Lions would have difficulty meeting the Brazilian club’s request, which is €20m, and with the Reds having more ‘financial power’ to win the battle, the situation seemed nearly impossible.

Now as Portuguese newspaper Record feature a story about Sporting’s chase for Lecce midfielder Morten Hjulmand, they confirm that the Lisbon club should no longer compete with Liverpool for André.

It’s claimed that the Brazilian had been a ‘dream’ for the Lions, but his signing was ‘practically impossible’, with Fluminense demanding at least €25m for the transfer.

Even though the South American was said to be the ‘first option’, they then decided to go for Hjulmand. It’s also said that there are still Premier League clubs interested in the Fluminense player.

That’s then an open path for Liverpool to make the signing, although André has been linked to the likes of Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers as well.

Last week, the Brazilian media reported that Jorge Mendes is working to take the player to English football.
