Sporting aren’t giving up on signing Islam Slimani back from Leicester City this summer.
The Portuguese press has already pointed out that the transfer seems unlikely for the Lions to achieve, but the dream to bring their old striker back continues at Alvalade.
On Wednesday, newspaper A Bola reports club president Bruno de Carvalho continues to look for other alternatives to overcome the salary barriers they’ve been finding.
Slimani reportedly makes €5m per year at Leicester, which is impossible for Sporting to pay. But the player’s wish to return to the Lisbon side is what the Lions rely on to bring him back.
This time, A Bola doesn’t say if the intention is to sign Slimani on a loan or a permanent deal, although the first option makes more sense for Sporting.
Newspaper O Jogo is another one with some words on the player, actually covering a speech from the Sporting director Augusto Inácio.
Asked about the chance of signing Slimani this summer, the official didn’t want to feed the rumours, but couldn’t deny the possibility either.
“I won’t be here to unveil secrets that are issues that are handed over to the board and to the coach, too,” said Inácio.”I know what’s going on, but as I said, I like to talk only when we can say: ‘This player is ours’. Now, possibilities, no. How many players haven’t newspapers said were being negotiated? How many coaches? Among so many, so many, they get one right.”
