What we love about World Cup transfer rumours is that players who spent the whole season being unnoticed now have their chance to be linked to big clubs.

Miguel Layún, for example, spent six months on loan at Sevilla, with the Spanish side being considered unlikely to activate the buying option to take him permanently from Porto.

But after his good performance for Mexico against Germany, there would be a list of clubs after him. As reported by AS on Tuesday, Arsenal, AC Milan and Marseille would all be interested in the 29-year-old, especially for his ability to play in several positions.

Now as the Portuguese press covers the rumour, they add another Premier League club to the list of pretenders, which would be West Ham.

They claim West Ham started showing their interest in the Mexican international a long time ago, and this World Cup performance has now attracted a lot of competition to fight against the Hammers.

To get Layun permanently, Sevilla only have to pay €6m and activate the buying option. But in case they don’t, and Porto sell him somewhere else, then it’s a good bet he’d cost much more.

Especially if it’s the Premier League clubs who go for him.
