Interesting news from Sweden today claims that Arsenal have been in talks for the signing of Hammarby youngster Emil Roback.
It’s his own club who have confirmed the interest, with their sports director Jesper Jansson being interviewed by local outlet Fotboll Direkt on Wednesday.
Fotboll Direkt first found out about the chase, and asked the director if it’s all true: “It’s true that there are contacts with such clubs about his name.”
Then when asked to confirm once again if it’s Bayern Munich and Arsenal who’ve been in talks for Roback, Jansson confirmed it, and ended up giving more details on the talks.
“We were contacted and know about the interest. He has also met Arsenal. There’s a strong interest and there are more clubs as well. He’s also been to Arsenal. Yes, I understand the interest. He is a forward with a great physique and speed and already a skilled goalscorer.”
Then he was quizzed if he’s been contacted directly by these clubs, he said: “Yes, we have.”
Fotboll Direkt also brings some quotes from Hammarby scout Mikael Hjelmberg, who had previously described Roback’s qualities.
”Emil is a forward with very good physique. He has an extreme speed, and is a natural scorer.”
Even though it doesn’t really sound like the Swedish youngster would be an expensive signing for a club like Arsenal, the list of interested sides should make it clear that there’s some heavy competition to get the 16-year-old.
