Rosario Central were ‘desperate’ to sell youngster Facundo Buonanotte to Brighton and Hove Albion to ease financial burdens at the club.

That’s according to La Capital, who cover the transfer today after the Argentinian side announced the deal yesterday.

They report that the papers for Buonanotte’s transfer to Brighton were ‘ready several days ago’ and only the signatures were missing for it to be finalised.

They arrived on Wednesday, which led to Rosario to announce the deal for the 17-year-old, who is considered as ‘the most promising player to emerge’ at the club in years.

Central were ‘desperate’ to make a sale in order to improve their cash flow and Buonanotte was the one they wanted to move on as they knew he was the most valuable.

The sale to Brighton has generated an initial income of around $6m and they will receive a similar figure if the player meets certain objectives included in the deal. Central will also receive 20% of the capital gain on a future sale also.

Buonanotte has already signed his contract with Brighton, who finally got their man after trying to sign him in the summer.

On that occasion the transfer did not materialise as President Ricardo Carloni blocked it following protests from the fanbase.

There was then an impasse in the negotiations with Brighton but they later improved their offer, specifically the amount Central would receive from the start.

They later sent envoys to Rosario to meet the player and his family and then visit to Rosario Central’s facilities to talk with the club.

A deal has now been finalised and he’ll be heading to England to link up with the Seagulls’ growing contingent of South American talent.
