Sent on loan to Lazio due to being on the fringe of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Manchester United, Andreas Pereira was hoping to play regularly.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to forge his way into Simeone Inzaghi’s plans, mostly due to being a jack of all trades yet a master of none.
This has limited the 25-year-old to a measly two starts in Serie A this season, and with a clause to make the move permanent set at a hefty €27m, his future in Rome is very much in doubt.
Il Tempo look at what Igli Tare, Lazio’s director of football, could do in the summer with the squad, with Pereira’s situation touched upon.
They describe the €27m fee set by Manchester United as ‘extortionate’ when you take into consideration how little he’s been used so far, but they do open the door to a stay should two scenarios occur.
The first would be if Inzaghi, in the last few months of the campaign, ends up using him regularly and the Brazil international showcases he’s ‘at the level of a team with Champions League ambitions’.
The second is if the Red Devils simply ‘lower their demands to cash in on a player who isn’t part of the technical project’ at Old Trafford.
Only time will tell with this one, but those in charge at Manchester United will most likely be praying for the first scenario, because that would mean more money.
