Towards the end of June, Chelsea let Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal.
During negotiations for the striker, the Blues asked the Serie A side about Denzel Dumfries.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who explain Chelsea have not taken the right wing-back off their radar.
Reece James and César Azpilicueta, who will turn 33 at the end of this month, are the two players at the west London club who can operate at right wing-back.
The Spaniard was used as the right centre-back against Everton, while the same position was occupied by James against Tottenham Hotspur. This would suggest Thomas Tuchel’s side need a new wing-back to provide cover and competition to James.
Although the former PSV Eindhoven man may no longer be a priority for Chelsea, those at Inter are ‘convinced’ the English club will soon make an attempt to sign the Netherlands international.
He is valued at €50m by the Nerazzurri and they could be open to doing a deal for €40m plus bonuses.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are set to resume talks with Inter over a deal for Cesare Casadei on Tuesday.
The report says there is a strong possibility Dumfries will again be a topic of discussion.
Inter may not be able to resist if Chelsea come with an offer in the region of €40-50m for Dumfries.
