The idea that N’Golo Kanté could leave Chelsea this summer continues to be pushed by the Italian media.
Even when we think it’s died down, it comes back to life, and Gazzetta dello Sport are the ones behind it this time, seemingly believing the move could happen at the right price.
For them, that fee is ‘€50m or so’, as that’s what Chelsea are seemingly intent on getting for a midfielder who was once the cornerstone of any tactic at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard’s arrival changed that somewhat, and it’s been made clear time and time again he is no longer considered unsellable after a season that saw the World Cup winner struggle with fitness issues.
At Inter, those in charge and Antonio Conte are convinced Kanté can still ‘change the club’s destiny’, just like he did at both Chelsea and Leicester City, helping them win a Premier League title each.
However, €50m is a lot of money for Inter, and there needs to be sales before they can match that.
The ideal scenario would be an exchange with Marcelo Brozović after a few rumours suggested a Chelsea interest in the Croatian, but ‘those voices haven’t found confirmations’.
The next one would be a sale of Milan Škriniar, who would bring in enough money to immediately spend it on the Frenchman.
If that doesn’t happen, Inter would then have to ‘build’ the funds, selling off a couple of less expensive players such as Ivan Perisić, Radja Nainggolan or even Joao Mario.
That’s where we stand right now, so it’s nothing massively urgent, but the idea is there and it’s not going away.
