About a week ago, we brought a story from France claiming that Southampton’s Mario Lemina was ‘seduced’ by the idea of moving to OGC Nice in Ligue 1.
The French club have shown great ambition of late, securing the services of title-winning manager Christophe Galtier, as well as announcing the arrival of exciting winger Calvin Stengs from the Eredivisie.
While adding youth is great, Galtier also wants experience in his team, which is where the Saints man comes in.
Not wanted by Ralph Hasenhüttl, who sent him on loan to Fulham last season, the Gabon international is likely to leave this summer, with Nice the favoured destination.
Le10 Sport provide an update on Thursday, claiming that following a €4m offer from the French side, discussions are ‘continuing’ with both Southampton and the player.
While there is still ‘a lot of ground to cover’, the belief is ‘the weekend could be decisive’.
We’ll have to wait and see about that, but it appears this one isn’t dead in the water just yet.
Far from it, actually.
