Divock Origi’s contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season and he is likely to leave Anfield in the summer. That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who state he ‘wants a new experience’ next season.
The striker has been restricted to four substitute appearances in the league this season, while he has managed five starts in other competitions.
A few Serie A sides came forward to take the 26-year-old in the winter market. It’s said the ‘situation is still evolving’ because of his profile and wages.
He earns around €4.5m gross per year and it would have been ‘affordable’ for them due to the ‘decreto crescita’ [growth decree] for those players arriving from abroad in Italy.
Victor Osimhen is their main striker and if the Nigerian were to receive a ‘pharaonic offer’, he will then be considered ‘not non-transferable’, at which point, Origi could either be his ‘perfect substitute’ or the two could play together at Napoli.
One issue is that the Reds frontman’s current demands exceed the €3m per year salary limit imposed by Napoli. They are willing to offer more than this to only one player and therefore, it could be a problem for them to sign Jürgen Klopp’s man.
Meanwhile, Atalanta looked at the Liverpool player and even made contact for his signing last summer. There would be a ‘possible revolution’ to their attack next season and Origi can be the ‘right profile’ for Gian Piero Gasperini.
As things stand, Origi will be available on a free transfer after this season and the current Reds striker could become an interesting option for several clubs in the summer.
