Ruben Vinagre’s transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Sporting will be made permanent, the Portuguese club has confirmed.

The full-back had been loaned to the Lions at the start of the season, and their purchase would be automatically triggered in case some performance bonuses were reached.

Now in a press conference, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed that the move is now ‘official’, with a long contract waiting for the player.

“He’s part of our project. We have young players we want to bet on. We really believe in Ruben. The situation was already thought of at the beginning of the season, but the purchase is now official. He had an injury that limited him,” said Ruben Amorim (via A Bola).

“This has already been said about other players, Matheus Reis does the position well, Nuno Santos too… I think of Vinagre as a team player. We count on him and he knows the hope we have in him. He has a five-year contract and we have time to help Ruben.”

Outlet A Bola says Sporting will spend €10m on the permanent signing, and other local reports claim Wolves should still keep 50% of a future move.

Vinagre moved to the Molineux in 2017 on a move from Monaco. Despite a couple of years featuring for the English club, he ended up going on loans to Olympiacos, Famalicão and now Sporting.

Now despite having a fairly good season with the Lions, with 13 appearances made, he’s still been struggling with injuries, and that’s what the Lisbon side will focus on to have him available for more games.
