With Roma looking for new centre-backs to the squad, recent reports from the Italian media had been claiming that a few free agents were being offered to the Serie A side.

With the Giallorossi looking to give up on that idea and wait for the January market, it’s now said that a Chelsea and a Tottenham Hotspur player are now in their sights.

This information is brought by journalist Rudy Galetti, who confirms that Roma spoke to those free agents and ‘decided’ not to go for any of them.

Now, new contacts for other targets are expected to take place in the ‘coming weeks’.

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and Tottenham’s Japhet Tanganga are two of those players in the list. It’s said Roma will speak to their agents to ‘understand the chances for January’.

Club manager José Mourinho is in need of strengthening his defence, but doesn’t look to be keen on signing the first names that show up for the club.

With Chalobah and Tanganga respectively making only one appearance for Chelsea and Tottenham this season, Roma’s strategy seems to be to go after players who haven’t been much used.
