Besiktas have officially confirmed that they’ve used the redemption clause to sign Sunderland attacker Jeremain Lens, and the player is now officially owned by the Turkish champions.
In the official statement written to KAP, Besiktas say:
”Our company can confirm that the deal for Jeremain Lens is completed and he’s now officially a Besiktas player, signing a 4 and a half year contract.”
According to official statement, the Turkish champions have paid €4m to secure his services, after initially loaning the player from Sunderland for €1.5m.
The Dutchman hasn’t proved himself at Besiktas since his move from Sunderland, and he’s been unable to replicate the form whilst on loan with Fenerbahce last season.
Lens has been consistently criticised by both the Turkish media and Besiktas fans, with the player scoring just one goal since his arrival last summer.
His move has caused controversy among the Besiktas fans, and some are hoping he’s sold to a Chinese club in the summer.
The Dutchman joined Sunderland in 2015, but played just one season with the the Championship side.
