It appears things are moving quickly in the Rui Patricio department, as AS Roma are on the verge of closing a deal for the Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper.

Ensuring Portugal didn’t lose to France with a stunning save from a Paul Pogba long shot, the 33-year-old showed exactly why José Mourinho is keen to work with him in Rome, and it appears things are well on their way.

Corriere dello Sport, on Friday morning, reported that while the experienced goalkeeper ‘does not represent an investment’, he can ‘still be bought at acceptable prices because he only has one year left on his contract’.

While Wolves started talks at €12m, which then dropped to €10m, the belief is Roma are ‘getting closer’, and the feeling is ‘they will close at around €6m with bonuses’, at which point the shot stopper will sign a three-year contract.

This is all confirmed by Gazzetta dello Sport, who take to their website to explain the Serie A side ‘are about to close the deal’ for Patricio.

Roma will do so ‘for €6m plus bonuses’ i.e. a ‘much lower fee’ than what Wolves wanted, which is exactly the same figures as Corriere, and ‘the player’s desire to go to Italy and play with Mourinho was decisive’.
