After completing his transfer to Wolves, Barry Douglas has upset some with his decision to leave Konyaspor, including the Turkish club’s president.
Douglas was keen to return to the UK following his time in Turkey, and Wolves managed to convince him to move to the Championship.
The former Lech Poznan player reportedly cost Wolves £1m.
Wolves new signing also took the decision to join the Championship club rather than play regular Europa League football with the Turkish cup holders, and Konyaspor president Ahmet Şan has confirmed they did everything they could to keep hold of Douglas.
San, quoted by NtvSpor said: “Wolves have been chasing him since the last summer transfer window. We rejected the approaches from them but Barry’s wife just doesn’t want to live in Konya. After his wife’s demands, Barry told us he wants to leave and join Wolves.
“We have done everything to keep him, we offered him a pay rise, an improved lifestyle, but he said he’s only interested in joining Wolves. After that meeting we reluctantly accepted the bid from Wolves and his transfer was completed. We wish him best for the future.”
Wolves pulled off the signing of Douglas this week, despite the left back also being chased by Scottish giants Celtic. The Scottish Premier League champions want to bring in a left back this summer, and will now have to look at other options.
