Ever since rumours of a Victor Osimhen exit this summer started to emerge, Napoli have been looking around for a potential replacement.
While a few names have done the rounds, none have stuck quite as much as Armando Broja’s, who will be returning to Chelsea after a decent spell on loan at Southampton.
The Albania international, born in Slough, is widely seen as one for the future despite his early blossoming in the Premier League, which is exactly the type of player Napoli like to bet on.
Gazzetta dello Sport explain the Serie A side ‘have been keeping an eye’ on the Chelsea player ‘for months’, as their director of football, Cristiano Giuntoli, ‘has been following him since before half the Premier League had their eyes on him, and for this reason, he has a preferential lane with the player’.
However, as things stand, ‘the intentions of the Blues are not yet known’.
This last bit is debatable, though, as a report from TuttoMercatoWeb yesterday suggested Thomas Tuchel wanted to work with Broja next season, thus potentially facilitating a Romelu Lukaku exit this summer.
Either way, Napoli see the forward as a player who ‘combines great strength with discrete technical abilities’, and it’s even suggested he could arrive in Naples without the sale of Osimhen.
For that to happen, however, someone else would need to be sold, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Fabián Ruiz the likeliest suspects.
Something to keep an eye on.
