In the middle of the January transfer window, Bournemouth made a heavy investment in the signing of Dango Ouattara, seemingly beating the likes of Leicester City along the way.

The Cherries spent €22.5m to sign land from French side FC Lorient, who, coincidentally, also have Bill Foley as their owner.

So as newspaper Ouest France today features a long interview with Loïc Féry, president of the Ligue 1 side, they had a question about this specific sale to Bournemouth.

The outlet wanted to know if the transfer had anything to do with the ‘arrival’ of Foley at the club, but he denied that, claiming the player had the choice to go to other places, including Leicester.

“Absolutely not. But if it had to be done again, I would not communicate in the same timing,” Féry told Ouest France.

“Dango Ouattara had the choice of going to other clubs in England (Leicester) and Germany. It was he who wanted to join Bournemouth.”

Ouattara had six goals and six assists in 18 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, and his performances were more than enough to draw the attention from clubs from abroad, like the Cherries and Leicester.

Since moving to Bournemouth, he played for the 90 minutes in both of their games so far, against Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

With the club not showing a great form, he’s still searching for his first win there.

His contract runs until the summer of 2028.
