Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that Pierluigi Gollini was ‘one step away’ from joining Tottenham.
The goalkeeper is set to arrive on loan with a view to buy, as Spurs look to add a backup to Hugo Lloris, who is now in the backend of his career.
A long-term replacement will be needed eventually, and this deal with Atalanta for Gollini represent a good opportunity to hold a sort of audition for the former Manchester United player and see if he can do the job going forward.
The talks have now been confirmed by Luca Percassi, the Serie A side’s CEO, who spoke about various topics, including his goalkeeper’s future.
Relayed by Calciomercato, he said: “Gollini is an important player for Atalanta. He has allowed us to grow, let’s see what happens. To date there is nothing definitive. Tottenham? Very concrete hypothesis.
“Some market rumours are the result of interest, but we start from a team made up of players who have given a lot and obtained extraordinary results. Thanks also to our great manager, that’s why we plan to start from our group. The market this year is special due to the pandemic and other problems.”
So, it appears that while Tottenham are indeed interested in Gollini, there is nothing done just yet.
That could change any minute, judging by the previous report, and we now have to wait and see how talks develop in the coming hours and days between Spurs and Atalanta.
