Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has spoken to TRT Spor about the latest developments at the club and he’s confirmed an offer was made by Cardiff City in January for one of their most highly valued players.
Agaoglu’s Trabzonspor have been one of the best teams in the Turkish Super Lig this season, with their young squad challenging for a Champions League spot with five games to go.
The club president said they will sell their young stars like Yusuf Yazici and Abdulkadir Omur when the time is right, and confirmed Cardiff City made a bid to sign the former in January: “I don’t want to sell the players just for the money. It has to be the right club where they can continue their developments.
“For example, Cardiff City have made a €14m offer for Yusuf Yazici during the winter transfer window. If we negotiated it, they are willing to up their offer up to €20m but we didn’t want to do that.”
Agaoglu also claimed Real Sociedad made the same offer for the 22-year old but this too was rejected by the Super Lig club. Trabzonspor’s president said they will deal with transfer issues at the end of the season as they are only focused on finishing the current campaign.
Cardiff City target Yazici has been in good form for Trabzonspor this season. The Turkish international has played 25 games for the club and scored one goal. He is under contract until June 2022.
