Sevilla’s director of football, Monchi, wants to include a purchase clause in any deal for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial this month.
That’s according to La Colina de Nervion, who say the Sevilla chief believes any clause included in the deal would be the best option for his club.
Sevilla have been heavily linked with a move for Martial over the last month or so after the Frenchman made it clear he would like to leave Manchester United, albeit on a temporary basis, during the January transfer window.
Talks have been held between the two clubs but failed to produce anything positive, with it even suggested Sevilla will pull their interest and look elsewhere.
La Colina de Nervion cover the situation today and explain that Martial is certainly the ‘hot topic’ at Sevilla this month.
Monchi is ‘determined’ to bring him to the club, and Martial is equally keen on the move to Spain, but talks with Manchester United are ‘proving difficult’ and the two clubs are ‘far apart’ at this moment in time.
This is despite Martial having ‘ignored other calls’ and putting all his attention on Sevilla, a stance which should lower United’s expectations in negotiations.
Sevilla have already seen a first offer rejected, but Monchi is working on things and wants to ensure any deal includes the ‘best possible conditions’ for his club.
That’s led him to pursue the inclusion of a purchase clause in the move as he believes that would be ‘ideal’ for Sevilla in future.
It remains to be seen what amount he is looking for, but it is perhaps this point on which negotiations could hang.
Sevilla’s next offer will include it – the first one did not – and if it is to be accepted, then they will have to get a ‘little closer’ to what Manchester United are looking for.
At the minute, Martial’s arrival ‘does not seem close’ but the forward wants to leave, United are aware of that, and Sevilla are working to make them agree to their terms.
