Wanting to find himself a new club before the end of the transfer window after being set aside by Antonio Conte, Tanguy Ndombélé finally returned to Lyon, his former club.

He left Tottenham on a loan deal with an option to buy believed to be at €65m, which is a fee the Ligue 1 club are unlikely to pay for a player they sold for less two years ago.

This means he will likely return to Spurs come the end of the season, where he might have to once again look around Europe for a new club.

One who were prepared to sign the Tottenham man at the last minute in January, according to Foot Mercato, were Bayer Leverkusen.

In a long article looking at deals that could have happened but didn’t, they drop a line explain that a ‘private jet had been chartered by Leverkusen for Tanguy Ndombélé in the event that his move to Lyon failed at the last moment’.

That obviously never happened, as the Tottenham player is now in France at his former club, but it just shows how some clubs plan, right until the very last minute.
