Jan Vertonghen is a free agent this summer, and there’s been many rumours about the defender being offered to clubs around Europe. Although there’s been claims about interest from Spain, it’s Serie A clubs which have been the subject of most reports.
Over the past few days there’s been talk of interest from AS Roma. Franco Baldini is set to take up another transfer role with the club, and it’s thought his relationships from his time at Tottenham would help ease contacts.
For example, it was claimed a few days ago that Baldini had contacted Spurs to see if they planned to offer a renewal to Vertonghen, and was told they do not.
Now Calciomercato comes with Inter Milan claims, and it’s made clear that the Belgium international wouldn’t be their first choice but could be a fall-back option.
They then move on to Roma, and it’s stated the Tottenham player is going to have to revise his salary demands downwards, with it being explained Roma ‘certainly’ wouldn’t pay the figures Vertonghen has ‘requested’.
Inter appear to have a similar position, and they’d also be reluctant because they have another veteran defender, Diego Godin, on high wages.
