As part of the deal taking Radu Dragusin to Tottenham, Djed Spence was sent on loan to Genoa for the rest of the season.
The deal for the 23-year-old also includes an option to buy, which suggests there is a chance he could stay in Italy for the foreseeable future.
Not only that, but Genoa’s CEO, Andres Blazquez, in an interview with La Repubblica and Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday, hinted they are already considering signing the Tottenham right-back permanently.
First asked by the former of the two newspapers about the movements that took place in January, the director recalled this wasn’t the first time they were after the defender, having to initially see him shipped off to Leeds.
That shows just how much Genoa wanted Spence, who clearly wasn’t just a pawn used by Tottenham to facilitate the transfer of Dragusin.
Not only that, Gazzetta dello Sport have a different quote from Blazquez about Spence, saying: “He can be an important acquisition for the future.”
If that isn’t a strong hint about a future purchase, we don’t know what is.
