A couple of days ago German newspaper Bild speculated that Leicester City’s Shinji Okazaki could be a target for Schalke.
It was presented as speculation, Bild assumed Schalke may want a forward, and they presented Okazaki as a possible candidate. Falling down the pecking order at Leicester City it was felt he’d be available, and with experience at Mainz and Stuttgart the player wouldn’t need settling in time.
Schalke’s current sporting director Christian Heidel held the same role at Mainz when Okazaki was there, so Bild explained he’d know the player well.
That speculation then made it’s way to England and was twisted into ‘Schalke want Leicester’s Okazaki’, with the English stories far more dramatic than Bild’s idea sharing the story has now been presented back to Heidel for his opinion.
The Schalke boss is quoted by Germany’s Revier Sport as saying: “He is not an issue.”
Rather blunt from Heidel, but at least he makes it clear. As it stands, Schalke have no interest in signing the Leicester City player.
