Everything has calmed down a little. Not so long ago Dimitri Payet was both the biggest football story in France and in England, with the West Ham player wanting to rejoin former club Marseille.
French newspaper L’Equipe had started the story back on January 2nd, when Payet was on their front cover and next two pages. It was the same on January 3rd, on January 6th he was part of a transfer special, and then on the 13th back on the front page with a headline saying he’d agreed to join Marseille.Since then he’s been off the cover and in Thursday’s edition, L’Equipe have a small snippet on the West Ham player which is tiny compared to their Memphis Depay coverage.
It’s no update, and L’Equipe say ‘there has been no progress on the issue’. West Ham’s asking price is too high for Marseille and that’s where everything currently stands.
The media local to Marseille believe a new offer is being formulated, which could launch the story all over again.
