The headline on the Christmas Eve front page of Mundo Deportivo reads ‘De Jong closer’ after Barcelona made an offer for Ajax’s Frenke de Jong.

It is also mentioned that there are other clubs, ‘above all,’ Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to secure the services of the midfielder.

Monday’s edition of the Catalan newspaper mentions the three clubs, along with Bayern Munich and Juventus, are keen on signing the 21-year-old, who has a price tag of €70m.

The salary proposal made by Ernesto Valverde’s side meets the demands made by the Netherlands international’s agent, but the figure will include bonuses.

It’s claimed the La Liga winners will not be able to meet the financial muscle of either the English champions or Les Parisiens.

However, they can compensate by offering a better sporting project than the latter two, even though Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and Thomas Tuchel of PSG play attacking football.

Mundo mentions that De Jong will evaluate which offer ‘seduces him more’ before taking a decision on his future, which won’t be long.

If it comes down to money, City have a better chance.
