While our net to bring you the latest football reports from around Europe is cast far and wide, sometimes story slip through.
One of those appears to be one regarding the future of Manchester City’s Thierry Ambrose, who spent the current season on loan at Metz in Ligue 1.
It wasn’t exactly the best spell for the 23-year-old, whose deal at the Etihad was set to expire in June anyways, and while his future seemed far away from the north-East of England, it’s now almost official.
The news comes from Républicain Lorrain in France, who reported last week that since the French government agreed to end the season as it stands and Metz will be staying up, the option to buy Ambrose will be ‘automatically triggered’.
That means City will likely be getting a bit of money for a player they seemed set to lose on a free in the next couple of months.
How much, however, isn’t stated.
Metz were 15th in Ligue 1 when the decision was taken, having picked up 34 points in 28 games.
Ambrose, down his end, only started four times for the club in the league, but made another 14 appearances as a substitute, often played on the wing rather than in his favoured central striker position, and never found the back of the net.
