Player ‘increasingly likely’ to give approval to joining Liverpool, despite contact from another club

Less than a week ago, we relayed news from AS that RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner ‘really wants’ to join Liverpool, despite interest from Inter Milan and Barcelona.

This week’s edition of SportBild focuses on the Reds and the La Liga winners.

It’s claimed the Catalan club contacted the Germany international’s father and expressed their interest in the striker.

However, contact has stalled because of the Coronavirus crisis having a huge impact on Barca’s finances.

With the 24-year-old already ruling out the option to join Bayern Munich, the report states it’s ‘increasingly likely’ the frontman will ‘give his yes’ to Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Werner’s contract with Leipzig lasts until 2023 and his release clause is valid until June 15th. If Liverpool or any other club triggers it, he can then leave for €55m.

The Bundesliga side are prepared to part ways with their star and have already started searching the market for his successor.

SC Freiburg’s Luca Waldschmidt and Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica are discussed as Leipzig’s targets.

SportBild now joins AS in reporting the attacker is keen on joining the Merseyside club.

The report only mentions Werner giving his approval to join Liverpool, but there’s no mention whether or not they will take necessary steps to complete his transfer.
