In search of a new defender, West Ham United have turned their attention to France, where Nayef Aguerd appears to be a target.
That’s according to some reports in England, with claims of a €35m bid being made by the Hammers for the Rennes centre-back, who had already been targeted by the Premier League side in the past.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s been accepted or that the two sides have an understanding, as the Ligue 1 side, seemingly through L’Equipe, have tried to clarify the situation.
The French newspaper have an article in their Wednesday edition claiming that Rennes ‘assure there is no agreement at this stage’ with either West Ham or any other club.
What they didn’t say is whether talks were ongoing, but L’Equipe do point out that while the Brittany based club do like the Morocco international and ‘don’t have a particular need to sell him’, they would find it ‘hard to turn away an interest of that magnitude’.
We’ll have to wait and see if anything more comes out on this in the coming hours, but it’s true that €35m would go a long way for the Ligue 1 side, and if West Ham are prepared to pay that much for the 26-year-old, they have a good chance of securing his services.
