Cádiz have sent a ‘formal request’ to FIFA to suspend their transfer ban following the signing of Momo Mbaye from Watford.
The Spanish side were sanctioned by the governing body earlier this year after Watford had complained following Mbaye’s move to the club last summer.
The Hornets believed that the player had moved without their permission, although both Cádiz and Mbaye insist that was not the case.
FIFA upheld Watford’s complaint, though, banning Cádiz from signing layers for the next two transfer windows, as well as banning Mbaye for four months and fining him.
The case is set to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, although will likely be delayed by the outbreak of Coronavirus, and Diario de Cádiz report they have asked for the ban to be suspended in the interim.
The newspaper reports that the club have FIFA’s legal documents explaining the sanction and now plans to ask for a ‘precautionary suspension’ before taking the case to arbitration.
It’s expected they will be granted their request, with it explained that it is ‘normal’ that FIFA would give it to them, having done so in the past, and barring an ‘unexpected setback’ they will be allowed to sign players this summer.
Cádiz, for their part, maintain that when they signed Mbaye, he was not a Watford player and even verified this in FIFA’s transfer system.
The player also argues that he didn’t have a contract at Vicarage Road, suggesting they are likely to argue their case strongly when they can finally get in front of CAS.
