On June 10th, we carried a report from Marca, who explained Espanyol’s Wu Lei was in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a summer move.
It was also stressed that negotiations between the forward and Wolves were ‘underway’.
Apart from Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, Watford also have an interest in the 28-year-old.
This is according to Sport, who state the China international has been on the radar of Wolves, Beşiktaş and the Hornets.
Sport’s main focus is on an interview given by the player to the Chinese media, in which he explained his future plans.
“I have seen that many people were discussing what would be my next destination. But I’ve really been clear about my ideas for a long time. I have made the firm decision to stay at Espanyol and play in the Segunda División,” he said.
The Catalan newspaper explains Lei wants to stay with the Spanish side, despite being on the radar of Wolves, Beşiktaş and Watford.
Wu Lie’s current deal at Espanyol runs down at the end of this year. Sport state there’s a clause, whereby, if both parties agree, his contract can be extended until December 2021.
According to Sport, ‘everything indicates’ the attacker’s contract at RCDE Stadium will be extended by a year.
