There’s been plenty of talk surrounding Galatasaray manager Jan Olde Riekerink with the Turkish media reporting the club’s board think he’s not the manager who’ll drive the team forward, and needs to be replaced at the end of the season.
The plan with Riekerink is to send him back to the academy, AmkSpor report the new back-room team will be led by current West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic, who worked at Besiktas before.
Amkspor claim Bilic will not be the only one to arrive at Galatasaray, and state he’s ready to bring in former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. The Premier League legend’s contract with Montreal Impact has now expired, and AmkSpor claim Galatasaray will offer Drogba a 6-month playing contract before becoming No.2 to Bilic.
Drogba previously played at Galatasaray for 18 months, following his Chelsea spell, and the CimBom fans still have a great affection for the Ivorian.
Dursun Özbek believes Bilic will be an excellent addition and the Croatian is much loved and respected by the Turkish people. Bilic managed Besiktas for 2 seasons and many believe he did extremely well under heavy financial circumstances. AmkSpor also say Bilic could be keen to return Turkey, and they report Bilic would have love to manage Galatasaray.
Although the Croatian boss has been backed by West Ham’s board it’s worth noting that things can change quickly in football. The Former Croatia national coach is currently going through a tough period at the Olympic Stadium with West Ham now lying in the bottom half of the table, and key players like Dimitri Payet are considering their future at the club.
Drogba is one of the most important figures in Chelsea’s history and a true Stamford Bridge legend. The gravitas Drigba built up throughout his career, at Chelsea and elsewhere, means he’s been linked with several coaching positions.
