Arsenal were ‘well on track’ to sign Atlético Madrid’s Thomas Lemar, reported Marca on Friday.
Later that day, El Chiringuito came up with an update stating the France international is ‘close to signing’ for the Gunners as Diego Simeone’s side need funds to bring in a new striker in the winter market.
It’s claimed that if contacts exist between Lemar, the La Liga club and Mikel Arteta’s side, the agreement for transfer is nowhere near close, and that goes for the two clubs and also between the winger and the north London side.
Lemar has been linked with a move away from the Madrid based side throughout January, and Lyon were credited an interest in the former AS Monaco man. However, the player has informed the Ligue 1 side, via his agent, of his refusal to join them.
