The Casillas to Newcastle United rumour could be tried as a witch, drowned in a barrel, have its remains set on fire and the subsequent ashes thrown into an Atlantic wind… and still somehow pop up again the next day.
Earlier we covered a snippet from a Spanish newspaper saying Casillas’ Porto exit could be imminent, and naming Newcastle United as the destination.
Another Spanish newspaper, AS, have also got in on the act, with a rather big Thursday article. Again being inspired and encouraged by the story refusing to leave the Portuguese newspapers, AS say Casillas has decided to sign for an English club, and Newcastle is his ‘most likely destination’.
It’s unclear if Newcastle United actually get any say in this.
Sometimes there’s a distinct feeling sections of the European sport media think of the phrase ‘A fool and his money are easily parted’ when considering sending players to the Premier League.
That’s helped a confidence build that Casillas can find himself a Premier League club should he so wish.
And Newcastle, perhaps, are seen as a club who should be grateful and just receive such a legend with open arms.
