Turkish website Fotospor claim Fenerbahce were showing an interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez in the summer before making a move for Leicester City’s Islam Slimani.
The Turkish club were in the hunt for a striker throughout the last transfer window and Fotospor claim Jimenez was their first choice.
It’s reported Fenerbahce made an approach for Jimenez but the Mexican striker had already decided to join Wolves. Subsequently the club turned to other options and signed Islam Slimani on loan from Leicester City.
However, Slimani’s move to Istanbul hasn’t gone to plan with the Algerian forward scoring just one goal since his arrival. This has led to criticism in the Turkish media in recent weeks and claims he could return to Leicester City in the new year.
Jimenez joined Wolves on loan from Benfica in a deal costing €3m, with a further €38m buying clause.
The Mexico international has been a regular starter with Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo and has scored 3 goals in 13 Premier League appearances.
